Shopify and Royal Mail integration

A Shopify order becomes a Royal Mail despatch in two steps nobody should take by hand: create the shipment and print the label. The integration does both when the order is fulfilled, sends the tracking number back to the customer, and builds the customs data for anything crossing a border.

Why companies connect Shopify to Royal Mail

Without an integration the packing bench works across two screens: the order in Shopify and Click & Drop beside it. Name, address and service get copied over, the label is printed, the tracking number is pasted back. That is two minutes a parcel on a good day and an address mistyped often enough to matter, discovered when the parcel comes back. Anything going to the EU adds customs data, which has been mandatory since Brexit and which nobody enjoys typing forty times a morning.

How we do it

When the order is fulfilled, the Click & Drop API creates the despatch from the order data and returns the label as PDF or ZPL along with the tracking number, which is written back to Shopify and triggers the customer's email. Customs data - contents, weight, value, commodity code and country of origin - is built from the product record rather than typed at the bench, so the declaration comes out of the catalogue.

A store adding a second carrier for heavier parcels without duplicating the process

Frequently asked questions

Do we need a Royal Mail business account?

Yes. The integration uses your Click & Drop account and its API credentials, and the rates applied are the ones on your contract rather than public postage.

What about the customs paperwork for EU parcels?

It is built from the product record - commodity code, country of origin, contents description and value - which is why those fields are worth filling in once. The alternative is filling them in per parcel, for as long as you ship.

Can we run a second carrier alongside?

Yes, chosen by rule: weight, destination, value or the service the customer picked. The same architecture takes DPD or Evri, each with its own adapter.
